Coca-Cola & India
In India a coca- cola company has placed one of their bottling plants in Mehdiganj in 1999. In which has used and contaminated Mehdiganj ‘s source of water. The bottling plant of “Coca-Cola extracted nearly 20 million liters of water” to only “produce 5 million liters of Coca-Cola products.” The use of the groundwater that the residents depended for many years is being used for the Coca-Cola bottling plant and exploited their source of water.
In the water that was used for production was founded that was contaminated “Central Pollution Control Board found excessive levels of cadmium, chromium and lead in samples of sludge that it had tested from the HCCBPL bottling plant”. The water was contaminated that can affect the health of the residents that are around the bottling plant. Also by using the water from Mehdiganj, the bottling company is connected to the “drainage which feeds directly into the river Ganges, a river considered sacred by Hindus”. The company not only contaminates the groundwater but also contaminates a river thus making more pollution. |
Somalia East Africa In Somalia East Africa, a new well was constructed but when it was consumed people were getting sick. “More than 150 people who had water from that well were recently hospitalized.” Meaning that it health effects to the residents. It did not stop there “At least 50 people have died in Somalia” due to consuming the contaminated water from the well. These issues exist severely in some countries Africa because the countries are less fortunate and can not afford to have access or have good quality water.
