Erin Brockovich: Hinkley, California
One of the known cases of water contamination in the U.S is the contamination of Hinkley, California during the 20th century . A company named Pacific Gas & Electric contaminated the water of Hinkley for over 30 years and had affected the residents in Hinkley. The contaminated water contained chromium 6 which is bad for the health and affected the residents. Erin Brockovich and Ed Masry made PG&E pay a settlement to the residents of Hinkley.
Flint, Michigan Water Crisis
Today Flint Michigan is the recent and publicly known case of water contamination. The water of Flint has contamination of lead. The switch of water supply was made during a financial state of emergency to save money. Lead affects an individuals brain development in which the parents are concerned with their children. After sometime the city of Flint has switched their water supply back and a class action suit is taking place for the contamination of lead.
Shell Oil Spill in Gulf of Mexico
Recently there has been another oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The oil company Shell had a pipe line underwater and opened, which the oil was leaking from. The spill has almost reached 90,000 gallons of crude oil. Since the incident has occurred a cleanup crew has been dispatch to deal with the oil.
