Lee Fuller, The Vice President of Government Relations for the Independent Petroleum Association of America
Lee Fuller implies that Hydraulic Fracturing does not affect the groundwater "today's technology allows us to produce many times the amount of energy we did in the past-but doing so by drilling many fewer wells.” Meaning that the advances of horizontal drilling has improved the extraction of natural resources and produce more energy than before. Also Fuller implies that not only the production/extraction of energy has improved but by also drilling into fewer wells than before, for example, Mr. Fuller states “Just take a look at Pennsylvania: The number of wells drilled in 2010 was 30 percent less than the number in 2005. But even with this decrease in activity, Pennsylvania today is producing roughly 12 times the volume of natural gas per day that it did back then.” Meaning with the new advances it caused the drilling in many different wells to decrease to a minimum. |
Tracy Carluccio, Deputy Director of the Delaware Riverkeeper Network
Tracy Carluccio suggest that Hydraulic Fracturing( Fracking) contaminates the groundwater with toxic substances. The process of fracking is hazardous towards the environment such as the biological life. Carluccio states “Fracking disturbs, distributes, and carries upward with the fracked gas "produced waters" containing radioactive materials, heavy metals, hydrocarbons..” Meaning the chemicals that are used in the process of extraction of natural resources, produces a waste that contains the toxic waste. Due to the “highly contaminated wastewater” that is produced contaminates the underground water as Carluccio implies” Drilled wells provide pathways for these contaminants to rise under pressure and mix with freshwater aquifers, causing these deep geology pollutants to mingle with shallow groundwater”. |
